At first I saw this thread and the title threw me. Doesn't everyone openly serve in the military...? Alas, I digress.

Ahh, no. They shouldn't be allowed to serve. Gay people give me the willies. Plus their behaviour is immoral. Therefore, the gays should stay in the comfort of their well decorated homes and contemplate their next abomination.

here is the DoD policy on Homosexuals which has been codified in 10 United States Code654. implemented 28 Feb 94

The Law homosexual conduct is incompatable with the military service.
you can serve in the military but you can not be open about it. you can not conduct homosexual acts.

Not all gay people are like that.

Why bother with two, then? Why not just one giant uni-whatever head. Because that is what it would be for lesbians/heterosexual women heads, and gay men/het men heads.

No it wouldn't. You can't just consider a gay man to be a woman or a lesbian to be a man. That's what you're doing. A gay man is not a woman, he remains a man; same for the women.

A gay man will not react the same way as a woman when showering with a group of men. It's a totally different concept.

Theresa wrote:
You can't tell me it wouldn't make you uncomfortable to have women constantly ogling you while you shower.

Well, it doesn't. I'm not ashamed of my body and honestly don't care what other men or women think of it. I'm sure I'm not the only person on this world that thinks like this.

Theresa wrote:
And please, when quoting, don't edit the middle of a comment. Because now I have to repeat what I previously said for those who will attack and say, "just because someones gay doesn't mean they are checking you out". (Clearly showing they haven't read the entire topic.)

All I can say about this is: "I'm sorry. That's not how I intended it to be."

I believe I took all the necessary steps when quoting. I clearly put in some ... to show others that I left something out. So you don't have to repeat yourself.

Coming back to the topic, I strongly believe we need to get to the basis of this problem. Are gay people alowed to join the army? The moraly correct answer is yes. No discrimination whatsoever. As to how the army will a accomodate the soldiers, I understand it might be harder but just because it's harder doesn't mean you can't solve it.

No one said that a gay man became a woman, or vice versa. But that is their sexual preference, attraction. So it's basically the same thing. If I were a lesbian, and was hitting on a woman, and a man was hitting on the same woman, it'd be two people. Gender would be irrelevant. But not in the head/shower.
And the reason there are seperate facilities in place already for the male/female is to prevent them from being put in compromising situtations.
Men and lesbians are both attracted to women. It's not fair for a "modest" straight woman to have to shower with either one. Same for the man.

[And I know that's not how you intended it to be, But you know the people here, some will twist anything.]

I guess if they want to serve their country they'll just have to hide it.

I agree that it was out of line, but maybe you should look up the word "racist" before you use it next time.

This question is really scary, I think.

This question implies that some people can serve their country and some cannot. This, to me, is going too far. Anyone wanting to serve and protect his or her country should be allowed to do so.
The question posed here could be taken straight from Orwell's Animal Farm, in the sense that the quote "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others" is implied.

Treating or judging a person differently because of his or her sexual orientation is discriminating and should therefore not be tolerated. Especially not in a country such as the US, which likes to think of itself as a country that values equality so highly. Practice what you preach.

I'm sorry I have to slightly laugh at this entire statement... Ever heard of the Spartan Army in Ancient Greece??? Well it never hurts to do a little research. The Spartan City State was known for its extramly powerful and feared Army. The reason why this is relevent to this topic is that it was a rule that all Spartan soldiers were to be in homosexual relationships with one another, with the belief that it would make them fight harder to impress/protect one another. I'm not sure about a lot of things but I do know that they were feared and they were not little sissys. Not all gay guys are sissys for that matter, only agout 25% of them fit that category most gay guys you would never have any idea that they were, unless they told you.

borgslayer wrote:

military should be men and women only.

The world should be and always be men marrying women and having children.

NOT men marrying other men and doing nasty stuff.

You are entiled to your opinion and I repect that. But In my opinion any kind of "relations" is nasty stuff no matter who is doing it.

borgslayer wrote:

I dont like gays because things like the AIDS epidemic started in the gay community.

PEOPLE JUST DONT UNDERSTAND.

Your right people just don't understand that they AIDS epidemic originated in the heart of Africa and spread by all kinds of "relations " M=F M=M and F=F and M=M=F=F Not in the Gay community but in an African tribal community. Unfortunately some people believe that Two Gay Men in San Fransisco had "Relations" and gave birth to AIDS unfortunately History has smashed this concept.

I'm sorry that one out of ten people give you the willies. As for being immoral, yes the modern christian bible claims it is immoral, however, in my opinion I dont thing God would punish us immoral beings any different from lets say anyone else. Who do you think gay people are "The Queer Eye Guys" or Christopher Lowell, No God No, they give the community a bad name, if you want some decent gay people look at : Sir Ian McDermott (Gandalf the Grey)Dick York (Darren off BeWitched), Robert Reed (Mr. Brady) So why dont you look at others that are gay, but are not so sterotypical.

theresa wrote:

I am probably going out of context of what you ment here, but It reminds me of another point.

Gay dosn't mean that a guy wants to be a girl or a girl wants to be a guy. they have Transgendered for that, and I'm personally not aginst that, but I don't understand it either. Gay men like men and Gay Women like women yes, but they are not just going to go up and hit on just anyone. We have to have a reason to believe that you are one of us before we hit on you, some of us may be bold enough to do that, but I'm aginst just going up to a guy and hitting on them, its rude, and a good way to get your butt kicked.

I answered most of this in the above statement, but I'm going to just add, that a guy/girl s not going to just stare at you take a shower, I mean they are not going to be worried more about themselves than what you've got next door, Its not like your going to get attacked if you drop the soap... unless your in prision and Big Bubba/Sue likes you. But I'm aginst Public Bathing anyway.

I say Yes definatly. I mean why would it be such a big deal, and why would sexual preferance have anything to do with their job, and their want to serve their country.

I say yes with obvious restrictions that everyone else has to follow. Also, regarding Theresa's post on June 30th, women have restrictions for a reason that isn't discriminating, ask my sister, or perhaps I should. I'm not sure about the subs reason, I'm sure they have a logical reason, you should probably ask them. It might be the same reason they can't really be on the front line, which I think that's correct. I should probably know all this, since my sister is in the military and my mom was in the military. lol.

^ Not all members of the Navy use the term 'head', and personally no matter what your color/gender/sexuallity. If you are willing to serve your country and fight for the common good then there is a place for you in the Royal Navy!

That's inaccurate. The Spartan men weren't allowed to go home to their wives, because their need of them was considered a weakness. They had to stay together to prove how strong they were, they didn't necessarily have to enter into a homosexual relationship.
And where are the Spartans now? If I recall, they weren't on the scene long.

So? If someone weren't openly gay and you slept in the same sleeping quarters with them, then would you still feel uncomfortable? It's all pyschological.

Disallowing homosexuals to serve in the military would be another form of discrimination, denying them rights based on their sexual orientation. It'd be just like saying that homosexuals can't buy houses, homosexuals can't patent inventions, et cetera. So what if they join the military? That's their choice, and I really don't think that it matters who is in the military as long as they want to be there and to serve their country.

Next people will say that homosexuals can't be politicians, can't be president, et cetera . . . it's a slippery slope.
