By all means, fill us in. Who has phasers, shields and regenerative engines?

sorry i meant lazers not phasers lol

i read on the net when i was doing some resarch for school about the shield its apparently top priority at the moment. they are first going to be used on european tankers... they say that they weigh about 60tons cuz of the armour plating they have to have but with shields instead it will wiegh just 20tons!!! and the lazers...well there is a prototype military machine with a lazer on it and of course its american, i think its still in the test stages and there are the type of lazers that can fix ur eyes. i think www.space.com tells u a little a bout the space ship thats being built it should be ready to be launched in 2024 with the new propultion technology and a manned crew, its first stop is the moon as sort of a test run and then its heading to mars. my friend said told me that she found out cuz they was talkin about it in one of the news channels or something i dunno. oh and theres also a probe with this same propulsion technology.

Theory of relativity puts faster than light speed as impossible. But since no one has even come to approaching light speed, no one knows. If the energy can be produced to propell something then theoretically, you can go at any speed at all.

To safely hit light speed, you need a controlled matter-antimatter reaction. To date, enough antimatter has been produced to only boil a kettle.

If such an element as yet undiscovered such as dilithium is discovered, then maybe enough antimatter can be produced to propell a ship faster than light.

Star trek puts it accross that subspace makes faster than light travel possible as Einsteins theory of relativity does not hold.

It is conceivable that such a plane exists in the universe.

So maybe in about 100 years time, FTL travel may be possible.

cuz of my age i would still be alive (hopefully) when zehram cocrane makes his first warp flight... i dont think that will happen then but i would like to see where technology has taken us in that time

1. The ship would need to be created in space. There is just no way that we are going to be able to fly a ship that big out into space.
2. It would be a living environment sort of deal where everyone lives on the ship.
3. If it needs to go to the nearest star, then it will take many many generations so in effect you would be gone while your offspring carries out the dream. Though the point of that elludes me.
4. Too many people would sabotage the ship before it even gets out into the farthest reaches of our galaxy and thus we wouldn't get anywhere.
5. Who'd be in charge of the whole thing? America? Ha!
(additions to this list will be made once I think of more things, or you out there can add to the list)

another suggestion: put some pregnant women on the ship, so you would have someone to fly the ship in 30 years..
