Also, DS9 had tribbles in one episode, SUPERCOOL!!!!!
But then you saw the original Klingons, the ones that just looked like humans with no fashion sense and big eyebrows, and Worf had to make up a story, but the Klingons in Enterprise look like the non TOS Klingons! ARGH!!

Exactly. I like how DS9 dared do things the other shows wouldn't. Like a war or taking place on a station. Whcih for all those people who complain it "didnt explore or move around...." they made the Defiant and it did just that!

I watched a lot of DS9, but I was only 9 or 10, so I probably didn't understand much. I just wanted a wrinkly nose like a "Baljoran"(?). I dont remember a war which is lame cos I spent loads of my childhood watching it

DS9 was one of my favorites. It actually had the people staying put, showing that we aren't intent and discovering everything.

Hm...well, I used to not like it...but then I started to like it...and then I stopped liking it!
I thought Season 3 - 5 were good...but then the war started and I stopped liking it! It just started to become too "Berman & Braga"! Too "anti-Star Trek"! *shrugs*
But I used to really like DS9! Kira rocked!

DS9 is not a series you can watch one episode of and get a fair and proper analysis of what it is like. It requires watching several episodes to even begin to understand the complexity of this series. Within DS9, there is a LOT going on at once.
A big thing that impressed me was that DS9 really went around to alternate who would take the leading role in an episode. How many times did we see Sisko play 1 or 2 parts on-screen while someone like Odo or Quark was the featured cast member? You look through Voyager and Enterprise and it's Janeway this and Archer that and Seven's chest this... The point being they are bad at not focusing on all the characters through a series.
DS9 was careful to give everyone a lot of attention, not necessarily on an episode-by-episode basis, but through the entire series.

I loved DS9! Until "Enterprise" came along, it was my favorite Trek since the orginal. I felt it was dark and gritty, everytihng Trek needed to contrast with the whole "everything is perfect" feeling TNG had.
course, that's just MHO.

Perfectly said.

Exactly. Thats why I liked it. TNG always had this sense of don't worryb nothing bad will ever happen to the ship or its crew. Tasha died but she died so early no one really cared. In all fairness they go more serious in the movies.
Im not saying I like the fact that bad things happen. It just makes the show more realistic. What I also like conveyed in a show is hope. DS9 was "gritty and dark". But it never gave a sense of hopelessness. In the end you knew things would be ok. It was also the only show of all four series to give a conclusion to each charecter. TNG finally got a conclusion with Nemisis. Voyager got a weak conclusion by coming home and thats it. No idea what happened to the crew. TOS? Weak conclusion as well. Very vague what happened to everyone. ENT? Only time will tell. Hope, reality, action, spirituality, and emotion is what I define DS9 with.

I have to agree completely on this with Founder. I've written many things about DS9, but I think this just sums it up. But still, no matter how much we write, there is always something to be told about DS9.

I didn't like the beginning of it that much.. but it sure got better when it got into the dominion war! there is a ton of good episodes in season 6 and 7 that deal with the war...

Its not something you can force. You either enjoy it or don't. I think you're too wrapped around VOY to like it. VOY and DS9 are polar opposites. They have different tastes. You can either walk a middle line and like both, like I do, or just pick a side. If you pick a side, you won't like the other show then. DS9 is an excellant show but on a deeper level. Religous, emotional, physical, mental. It has a lot. The first season starts off slow, but after that is really amazing. But like I said, you can't force yourself to like it.

I hate to admit it, but the first season is kinda boring. Try and stick with it and you'll see the show get a lot more interesting. Im sure you'll like the Maquis arc and the Dominion arc.

I agree with Founder,(much against my will) that the first season was rather boring, BUT after I sat through it, the next seasons definatly made up for it...It was definatly IMO the best series besides TOS which was good..in its own...bad computer animation corny acting sort of way.

I loved DS9 but it is my least fave of the Trek series- apart from Enterprise- I haven't really seen enough of it to judge it.
