Thu Sep 16, 2004 1:31 pm Do we want Q on ENT? |
|
I've had a quick browse to see if this topic has already been done. Whilst it has been touched upon in other topics, it has never been a topic of it's own. So, here goes...
In the UK Star Trek Magazine #117 (out today), Rick Berman gives his usual interview. A fan asks him about the possibility of a Q appearance on ENT? From what Berman said, it is a distinct possibility. Berman acknowledged that it is hard to come up with stories for omnipotent characters but didn't say that Q would never appear. Ditto The Borg.
So, do we want it? Yes or no? Please vote in the poll.
I'm a little skeptical. I want ENT to stand on it's own two feet, on it's own merits (as it has been doing recently). Sometimes, bringing in characters not officially encountered until later Trek shows is seen as a gimmick. And, if Q encountered Archer, why did he not bother humans again until TNG? And, several things referenced in TNG suggest the TNG crew were the first to meet Q.
That aside, it could be a whole lot of fun (don't know how they'd explain Q looking older). Timeline issues aside, Q on ENT could be interesting as a light-hearted stand-alone episode. Seeing Archer and T'Pol's reaction to him would be most fun. It could be an episode which stands out and shines.
So, would I vote "yes" or "no"? I'm afraid that I'm one of those who thinks that, whilst the timeline should be respected, the writers shouldn't be afraid to deviate once in awhile. So, I would welcome a Q appearance.

I think it would be nice to see Q in ENT. His enthusiasm would really liven up the show.

I think it would be funny, but wasn't Encounter at Farpoint the first encounter with Q and the Borg? Or had he appeared previously? If it is the first time he appeared, then wouldn't it be strange him popping up somewhere in the past, but then again he could just pretend to be human, because the Q from Deathwish helped the apple guy and Will Rikers Grandfather or great Grandfather or something. . . I'm babaling

I don't have any problems with bringing in species from other series, but considering what people thought about the Borg in "Regeneration", I think Enterprise would get in alot of trouble for bringing in Q.

Oh yeah, sure why not? They already messed up the timeline. Bring Q in too early. Do it. ENT is already a giant screw up. Lets twist the knife in our side.

Q and the borg are way over used. We need to move on and get fresh ideas and themes in Star Trek. Using Q and the borg over and over is probably what is taking Star Trek down.

I'm going to say yes on this one. I've always liked Q with his appearences on TNG, Voy, and DS9. At least have one episode, to see how the general public reacts. I hope it would branch into more.

JP

NO WAY. Q needs to appear for the first time where he first appears. We first find out about Q during Picard's command--we shouldn't change that.
Although it would be cool, we can't.

Well you also have to relise that the Borg were first contacted in TNG, and they showed up in Enterprise. The Ferengi as well. It is obvios that the writers concern for the timeline is minimal, so they might as well.

JP

^Yeah, and I do NOT think that it's good for them to do such things. Then "Encounter at Farpoint" is stupid (if that's not the episode, then I'm talking the 1st ecounter with the Borg) if Enterprise has the Borg in it.
