Tue Sep 07, 2004 10:47 pm 2 CNN anchors working for Kerry yet still on (Ethical?) |
|
I hope this is alright, but...
This is from tonight's O'Reilly Factor, a topic for debate.
Quote: | The ethics of consulting
The Kerry campaign has hired James Carville and Paul Begala as unpaid advisors, yet CNN has decided to keep the two on the air. Is this ethical? |
And that is the question: Is it ethical to keep on the air two Kerry advisors? It's NOT--it's not right!

I don't really know...it seems like that could cause Republican's to start to think up conspiracy theories...so I don't know why you would want to do that. Not that I really care since I never watch CNN...I always choose Fox if I can get it.

Same here, but I don't believe that we'll come up with conspiracy theories, but it IS TRUE that they would make their stories, etc DEFINITELY biased towards Kerry and it is unethical.

This just shows people that the press is SO liberal. Normal people should be able to figure that out.

I don't think it is unethical. Everyone has opinions, and there's no such thing as doing your job with zero amount of bias. As long as they don't give advise over the air, and keep their unpaid job completely separate from their news show, then I think it's fine.

1. It IS unethical! If you are an anchor in the media and yet are actually an ADVISOR to a Candidate, that is WRONG!
2. There isn't such thing as ZERO bias (with the exception of C-SPAN)
3. You don't need to ADVISE others for it to be unethical! They will be EXTREMELY supportive and biased for Kerry, and it's not the right thing to keep an advisor to ANY candidate on the air when he/she is in the news media.

But don't the news anchors read from a tele-prompter anyway?
Like I said before, obviously they cannot remain completely unbiased. But neither can any other news anchor--you'd have to remove every news anchor above voting age if you don't want them supporting someone on the air. Heck, you couldn't even have underage news anchors because they would still favour one candidate over the other. This way, they're just adivising their favourite candidate as well as doing a news show.

The people who feed the teleprompter the words are VERY liberal.

And so you're asking if the news anchors, reading from the liberal teleprompter are unethical? It's not as if they have a choice who is feeding the words in . . . I would confront the teleprompter people, not the news anchors.

1. If they are experienced anchors, then they hardly have the telepromter.
2. These two guys are hosts of a show called Crossfire which HAS NO teleprompter! And the teleprompter doesn't mean that the people behind the mask and doing the show aren't Liberal--which they ARE--ESPECIALLY CNN!

RM, I didn't see you complaining when Bush's campagin Laywer was advising The Swift Vets for Truth.
So its fair that one candidate is supporting a 527 but not when the other gets political advisors?

That is NOT true, and you should know it. He did NOT advise them, and I've heard about it and know that it's not true. If it WAS true, then I WOULD condemn it. But it isn't. Even O'Reilly found that out.

I don't know if it's unethical or not, but it certainly gives the appearance of impropriety. You have to be able to trust your news anchor, IMO. (Which would be why I don't bother w/ CBS Evening News anymore, btw).
People should do as they always should have done, take nothing at face value.

No he didn't, but if he did, show me it and the source and I'll change my mind and denounce it.

Now, I don't really trust these sources to much, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and will now say: I condemn his actions. There. You happy now?
